National Electric Power Industry Statistics from January to August

On September 19th, the National Energy Administration issued the National Electric Power Industry Statistics from January to August.

As of the end of August, the national cumulative installed capacity for power generation was approximately 2.76 billion kilowatts, representing an 11.9% year-on-year increase. Among these, the installed capacity for solar power was approximately 510 million kilowatts, showing a 44.4% year-on-year increase, and wind power installed capacity was approximately 400 million kilowatts, with a 14.8% year-on-year increase.

From January to August, the average utilization of power generation equipment accumulated to 2,423 hours, which was 76 hours less than the same period of the previous year. Specifically, hydropower had 1,984 hours, a decrease of 469 hours compared to the same period the previous year; solar power had 907 hours, a decrease of 40 hours; nuclear power had 5,116 hours, an increase of 121 hours; wind power had 1,538 hours, an increase of 79 hours; and thermal power had 2,999 hours, an increase of 67 hours.

From January to August, the major power generation companies in the country invested a total of 470.3 billion yuan in power projects, marking a 46.6% year-on-year increase. This included 187.3 billion yuan for solar power, an 82.7% year-on-year increase; 52.2 billion yuan for nuclear power, a 56.9% year-on-year increase; and 114.9 billion yuan for wind power, a 38.7% year-on-year increase. Investment in power grid projects reached 270.5 billion yuan, with a modest 1.4% year-on-year increase.
