The World’s First Submerged Liquid-cooled Energy Storage Power Station Put into Operation in Guangdong 发布时间:2023-03-16 浏览次数:855

The world's first immersion liquid-cooled energy storage power station, China Southern Power Grid Meizhou Baohu Energy Storage Power Station, was officially put into operation on March 6.The commissioning of the power station marks the successful application of the cutting-edge technology of immersion liquid cooling in the field of new energy storage engineering. It has promoted China's overall planning of energy security, stability and green and low-carbon development.

The scale of the energy storage power station is 70 MW/140 MWh, and according to the calculation of 1.75 charging and discharging per day, it can generate nearly 81 million kWh of electricity per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 45,000 tons.

The energy storage power station is equivalent to the city's "charging treasure", which converts electrical energy into chemical energy and stores it in the battery when the power consumption of the power grid is low; At the peak of power consumption in the grid, the stored chemical energy is converted into electrical energy for discharge. It can participate in peak shaving and frequency regulation, play the role of peak shaving and valley filling, and improve the capacity of new energy consumption.

According to Nangrid Energy Storage Company, energy storage batteries will continue to heat up during operation, and cooling is an important factor affecting the safety of energy storage power stations.Previously, energy storage battery cooling mainly used air-cooled heat dissipation and liquid-cooled heat dissipation. Both cooling technologies have the disadvantage of slower cooling speed and longer cooling time.

Since 2022, China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Company has established an interdisciplinary scientific research team. They tackled the key technologies involved in immersion liquid-cooled battery energy storage systems, and solved the technical problems of immersion liquid-cooled applications in large-capacity energy storage systems.

At the Meizhou Baohu Energy Storage Power Station, the battery is directly submerged in the coolant in the cabin. In this way, the battery is directly and quickly cooled, which ensures that the battery operates within the optimal temperature range, effectively extends the service life of the battery, and improves the safety performance of the energy storage power station as a whole.Wang Zhiqiang, chairperson of China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Technology Company, said: The successful development of immersion liquid-cooled battery energy storage system has realized the iterative upgrade of electrochemical energy storage safety technology, and the battery heat dissipation efficiency has been increased by 50% compared with traditional methods. Meizhou Baohu Energy Storage Power Station can realize that the operating temperature rise of the battery does not exceed 5 degrees Celsius, and the temperature difference between different batteries does not exceed 2 degrees Celsius.

Meizhou Baohu Energy Storage Power Station took just over 4 months from construction to trial operation.Wang Linwei, an employee of the construction center of Nanwang Energy Storage Technology Company, said: The equipment of the power station adopts a prefabricated cabin-type structure, and the main equipment of the system is placed in a container, which can be debugged after on-site assembly, which greatly shortens the construction period, improves the level of safety construction, and reduces the pressure of subsequent operation and maintenance.

By the end of 2022, the installed capacity of new energy storage projects in China has reached 8.7 million kilowatts. It is expected that by the end of 2025, the installed capacity will reach more than 30 million kilowatts, with an average annual growth of more than 50%.As an innovative breakthrough in safety technology in the field of energy storage, immersion liquid cooling will help accelerate the construction of a new energy system in China.
